The Covid-19 pandemic has killed at least 3.9 million people worldwide since the end of December 2019, according to a report established by Agence France-Presse from official sources on Friday, July 2 in the middle of the day.
The United States remains the most affected country in terms of number of deaths (over 605,300), followed by Brazil (521,900), India (400,300), Mexico (233,200) and Peru (192,600 ). These figures, which are based on the daily reports of the national health authorities, are generally underestimated. The World Health Organization estimates that the toll from the pandemic could be two to three times higher.
Record of contaminations in South Africa, and deaths in Russia
L’South Africa, the country most affected by the new coronavirus on the continent, recorded a record 24,000 new infections on Friday, to exceed a total of two million cases, according to official figures. Friday’s figures set a daily record, surpassing the previous 21,980 recorded in January 2021. The total death toll stands at 61,300.

On Russia, the Kremlin has ruled out the idea of containment to fight against the deadly new wave of the epidemic which is hitting Russia hard, carried by the Delta variant. The country recorded a new record of daily coronavirus deaths on Friday, for the fourth day in a row, with 679 deaths.
Investigation into accusations of “prevarication” against Bolsonaro
At Brazil, the prosecution announced “The opening of an investigation” on the charges against President Jair Bolsonaro, suspected of having failed to report an attempted corruption in his government during the purchase of vaccines against the Covid-19. In Germany, more restrictions for people vaccinated
On Germany, possible containment measures should no longer concern people who have received two doses of vaccine in the future, announced the Minister of Health. “As long as there is no mutation that impairs protection, complete vaccination means that measures [de restrictions] like those of last winter are not necessary in vaccinated people ”.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel expressed her concern about the number of spectators allowed to attend the semi-finals and the final of Euro football in the United Kingdom, where contaminations due to the Delta variant are soaring.
